Karen Pearson
– profile/biography 2011 Fine Artist –
painter & sculptor Experienced
in drawing and
painting a wide range of subjects, Karen is inspired by
the magic of the
natural world, moments in time and the richness of life
that surrounds us. Her paintings
often capture the ever changing qualities of light and
colour, bringing an
exciting depth to the work. Karen
is a prolific painter (20
years) in all media, particularly watercolour; and art
tutor (5 years) running
classes and workshops in Surrey. She is an active member
of the Dorking Group
of Artists, having worked as Exhibition Secretary,
Winter Education Programme
co-ordinator and Chairman in past years. After
achieving a full
distinction in HND Fine Art, she is now studying a BA
(Hons) Fine Art Sculpture
at Wimbledon College of Art. For a
succession of years, Karen exhibited and sold with
The Society of Women Artists at the Mall Galleries, and
participated in ‘Not
the RA’ shows at Llewellyn Alexander Gallery, London.
She was a former member of
The Society of Floral Painters and Surrey Figurative
Artists. She exhibits
regularly at galleries in London and the South-East and
her work is held in
collections both here and abroad. Karen has hosted and
organised charity
painting days, exhibitions and Art4Kids workshops,
raising
over £16,000 for children with special educational
needs. Her paintings
have received several awards: 1997 The
St.Cuthberts Paper Mill Award (SAA); 1998 and
1999 Highly Commended Awards (SAA); 2000 HC Award and
Best Amateur Award (SAA);
2001 runner up for The Artist and Young Artist of the
Year; 2003 Silver Bacchus
Award (Denbies); 2005 Visitors Vote (Denbies Wine
Estate, Dorking, Surrey). Karen lives
